The end of World War II in Prachatice District

The bachelor's thesis entitled The End of the Second World War in Prachatice Region attempts to use archival sources and other available literature to process the last months of the end of the Second World War in this South Bohemian town. Although it is a topic of the recent past, there are not many sources of knowledge in the case of Prachatice. The introductory part includes a brief description of Prachatice and its history, followed by the development from 1938 to the end of 1944. In other parts, he deals with the events of the first four months of 1945, when the Revolutionary National Committee was formed, refugee transports passed through Prachatice, the railway station was attacked by American pilots, and the German city leadership decided whether the city would defend itself against the incoming American army. The key part is the events in May 1945, when the city was liberated. Also mentioned is task 3. U.S. Army, which liberated Prachatice. The final chapters are devoted to the post-war operation of the American army in this region and the post-war removal of the Germans from Prachatick. The main source was SOkA in Prachatice, which provided the most important sources for writing the thesis. Transfigurations of the image of the Czechoslovak Parachutists in Memory and Popular Culture 1945-1989

Práce se věnuje problematice obrazu československých parašutistů ze Západu v poválečném Československu. Časový rámec zkoumaného období je ohraničen roky 1945 až 1989. Úvodní část je tvořena přehledem vydané literatury a pokusem o základní periodizaci vymezeného období. Následuje přehled hraných filmů, které se parašutistů týkají a jejich rozdělení do kategorií, dle prostoru, který je jim věnován. Další část se zabývá muzejním expozicím, které se parašutistům věnovaly. Své místo mělo připomínání parašutistů ze Západu i v československé armádě. Poslední část se věnuje vizuálním připomínkám parašutistů ve veřejném prostoru. Již v prvních poválečných měsících se začaly odhalovat na řadě míst republiky pamětní desky, připomínající narození, či smrt některých padlých parašutistů. Nejvýznamnějším místem pro setkávání parašutistů v den smrti jejich kamarádů byl kostel sv. Cyrila a Metoděje, vždy s účastí veřejnosti a často i vládnoucího aparátu. Cílem práce je vysledovat na výše zmíněných oblastech proměny obrazu parašutistů ze Západu a jejich zasazení či vytěsnění z kolektivní paměti.

"Resistance Movement in the Region of Plzeň- North during the Second World War "

This diploma thesis briefly describes the situation in the region of Plzeň throughout the period between the signature of the Munich Agreement and the end of the Second World War in the background of the international events and with special emphasis on everyday life. It also monitors the course of events in the field of domestic resistance and its cooperation with the foreign representatives; it provides a list of resistance movement organizations operating in the region of Plzeň. The majority of the thesis deals with the resistance movement in the district of Nýřany, which has been a part of the Plzeň - North district since 1960. This part of the thesis describes not only the organized resistance movement (the communist and the democratic one) but also the spontaneous actions performed by the individuals. The thesis depicts the story of several people who participated in the resistance movement against the Nazis and whose lives were deeply affected by the Nazi persecution. The aim of the thesis is to point out the domestic resistance situation in the background of the above-mentioned stories in the industrial area of Nýřany.

A master's thesis "Brandýs nad Labem and Stará Boleslav 1938-1945" is focused on description of selected aspects of the life in towns. Since events of the year 1938, through occupation and period called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, till the time before revolt in May 1945. Due to better clarity, the thesis is divided into chapters dealing with social and culture progression, transformation of the town government, war industry, resistance movement and war events that intervene in the life in towns. Separate chapters dealed with the fate of the Jewish community, outline the course of the postwar investigation of collaboration and war monuments of Czech and German victims. Czechoslovakia during the Second World War - Influence of the Second World War on the political development of Czechoslovakia The years 1938-1945 determined the development that culminated in the communist coup d'état in February of 1948. At the same time, Czech society was undergoing a deep crisis that has been caused by bitter disappointment of the end of the First Republic and its internal political problems. The Great Depression, mass unemployment and the inability of government officials to deal with this situation satisfactorily led to dissatisfaction with the economic arrangement of the First Republic and became the subject of radical change. According to many, the First Republic political party system also had failed. Too many political parties, the need for coalition governments, selfish adherence to party interests instead of national interests, intrigues, were all given as reasons why democracy had not been able to confirm its primacy in the moments when it was most needed. Betrayal by the Western Allies, especially France (under the strong influence of Great Britain) and the relatively friendly behavior of the Soviet Union during the Munich crisis undermined foreign policy concepts, held in the interwar period. The National Theatre in Prague during the Nazi Occupation: The Foremost Theatre Scene between Oppression and Resistance. (A Historical-sociological Analysis) ABSTRACT The submitted dissertation, based on historical-sociological analysis, describes and explains the status, reaction and functionality of the National Theatre in Prague during the hardest times of our modern history - the occupation of the Czech lands by Nazi Germany, the so-called Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945), the era when the National Theatre, as the top cultural institution, consolidated its artistry, its permanent values and interpretation efforts of its ensemble to defend the right of our society to preserve its own culture, its own existence. The principal objective of this work is to analyze methods and techniques by means of which the National Theatre in Prague, in line with its audience, steadily faced critical situations caused by the Nazi occupation. Among key factors in this process were the acts of Czech theatre performers proving their bravery as they put their work careers and even their own lives at risk to help guide our nation towards awareness and determination not to relinquish the nation's sovereignty.
